July 22nd

Dear July,
I wanted to be productive today. That was the plan. I’ve done very little work on my current writing project in the last month. I was on a roll, briefly but have ground to a halt because of other commitments.
But when I sat down to write, I struggled. I felt sad, for a few little reasons and couldn’t get my head into gear. So I decided to go slower today. I sat down to write a stack of letters, MasterChef on in the background. On days when writing is too hard, letters are a good thing to do. It’s nice to inject that creative energy into my relationships, by sending handwritten news to people that I love.
As the evening was setting in, I went for a walk to the post office. The sun broke through the clouds for a moment and flooded the houses with golden light. I bought my stamps, applied them carefully to the letters and one-by-one I slotted my little stack into the box.
